LESSON FROM THE 1st GRADERS :)

B teaches music part-time at Santa Monica k-8 school and often has to focus students on the task at hands. 7-8 graders sometimes are testing teacher's authority by laughing. For some reason, music lesson is often the one during which students feel the need to challenge a teacher. I understand that it is a way to avoid focus on the challenge.

One day B asked:
- What's so funny? If you want to laugh, go outside the class, laugh and then come back when you finish. Y cannot laugh when other students trying their best to play instrument or sing...

Not a single student moved from their seats. It is obvious, there is no point to go out of class to laugh, because outside there is no fun to laugh when nobody sees and the school principle may pass by and ask why are you there.

But when B used the same technique in the 1st grade class, in a second 5 or 6 students were standing at the door and 3 more were moving toward it.

- Where all are you going? - asked B.
- To laugh outside the class... - explained 1st graders :) :) :)

Art's comment: we laugh every time, when we remember this happening. Reverse psychology not always works with little ones... with them Universe indeed takes your requests literally ...
